It's about taking up your opportunities while you have them, because you might never ever get another chance. The song is about being out and you're with someone and an opportunity has arose between the two of you and you don't know how it's happened. You can tell they take liking to you but they seem to not be forward with spontaneous events but you want to reassure them everything will be okay. You don't want them to leave like in the chorus "Please don't go back we haven't even started" or you will "just hold them tight, right under the city lights". Infatuation usually doesn't play in your favour however you always end up forgiving to the emotions even though it doesn't work out for you.
